DPM arrives to rousing welcome in Kuching

KUCHING: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin was given a rousing welcome by a large crowd when arriving at Kuching International Airport here yesterday.

The aircraft carrying Muhyiddin touched down at KIA at around 6pm.

Present at the airport to welcome Muhyiddin were Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his deputy Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president Datuk Seri Peter Chin and Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) president Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom as well as Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

Among other state dignitaries present were State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar, State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Morshidi Abdul Ghani, Senior Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, Housing Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg and Infrastructure Development and Communication Minister Dato Sri Michael Manyin.

Also present were Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties assemblymen, members of parliament and heads of government departments.

Muhyiddin was scheduled to attend a closed door state BN briefing at Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) headquarters in Jalan Bako upon his arrival last night.

State BN comprises PBB, SUPP, SPDP and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS).

Today, he will be visiting family members of the late Temenggong Datuk Kanang Langkau at Kpg Sungai Apong Baru and meeting residents of Kpg Sg Apong at Pending Community Hall.

After the meeting, Muhyiddin will take a river cruise along the Sarawak River to Medan Niaga Satok at Petra Jaya to officially declare it open.

In the afternoon, he is scheduled to have a meeting with civil servants at Pullman Hotel. After that, he will attend a gathering with youths at Kuching Integrated Recreational Centre here.

In the evening, he is scheduled to attend Majlis Perhimpunan Rakyat 1Malaysia at Siniawan old town.

Tomorrow, Muhyiddin is scheduled to take a walkabout at Kota Sentosa at around 8am to meet the public and for breakfast.

After breakfast, he will be going to Sibu en-route to Sarikei to attend a meet-the-people gathering at the civic centre there.

His final event will be attending the 1Malaysia Young Teachers Gathering at SMK Sacred Heart Sibu before departing for Kuala Lumpur in the evening.
