TYT visits Chinese leaders in Sibu

WELCOME: Soon Koh (right) greets Salahuddin upon his arrival.

SIBU: Head of State Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Norkiah visited Chinese leaders and businessmen here yesterday.

Their entourage for the Chinese New Year visits included Minister of Social Development Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom and his wife Puan Sri Julia Mawan.

The group’s first stop was at the residence of Second Minister of Finance Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh at 9.30am.

Salahuddin and company were welcomed with a lion dance and greeted by Soon Koh’s wife Datin Sri Pauline Leong, son Andrew Wong, relatives and friends.

This was followed by visits to former Dudong assemblyman Datuk Dr Soon Choon Teck, Forestkin group managing director Datuk Seri Luk Teck Hoe and Hock Peng Organisation managing director Datuk Toh Chiew Hock.

The visitors then had lunch at the residence of KTS Group of Companies managing director Dato Henry Lau.

Among those present to greet the VIPs there were group chairman Lau Swee Nguong, group deputy managing director Temenggong Vincent Lau, Deputy Minister of Information, Communication and Culture Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum, relatives and friends.

At about 2.40pm, Vincent played host to the visitors before they headed to Lanang MP and Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King’s residence.

Also present during the Chinese New Year visits was Sibu police chief ACP Shafie Ismail.
